Conservatives’ Push for Budget Cuts Grows Stronger

Despite the prospect of political fallout exerting influence on the November mid-term elections, congressional Republican leaders appear to be willing to war over the $1.3 trillion FY 2018 federal budget and efforts to trim the amount. The prospect of rescissions to the omnibus appropriations award has rattled program managers across the administrative spectrum, particularly at HUD where such cuts would have considerable impact after spending and purchasing commitments have already been made on the basis of the approved spending levels (see HAL, GOP Scrambles To Cut FY18 Spending, Issue No. 18-15, April 13, 2018).
